Aker Solutions project utilising Celeros FT flow control solutions for North Sea electrification project

07/02/24

We’re celebrating another big energy transition project win! This time it’s for decarbonising offshore oil and gas operations in the North Sea. We’ve been chosen to supply two new water injection packages, including the electric motors and variable frequency drives for the AKER/OKEA power from shore project on the coast of Norway.

The new ClydeUnion pump packages will replace the existing gas turbine-driven units to take advantage of Norway’s abundant renewable electricity resources, helping to reduce our customer’s carbon footprint.

Tommy Kassem, our Chief Commercial Officer, explains: “Decarbonizing the global energy supply chain is critical to reducing climate change impacts and securing a cleaner future. This involves upgrading existing oil & gas assets as well as developing new renewable resources. So we are proud to be playing our part in supporting both new and existing operators as they adapt to using alternative, greener sources of energy.”

The Draugen platform, located about 145 km off the coast of Norway, is undergoing a major upgrade to make it more environmentally friendly. Aker Solutions is leading the effort to electrify the platform, which involves replacing some of its equipment with electrical power from an onshore substation. This upgrade is expected to be completed by 2026 and can result in a yearly reduction of up to 200,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
